Football predictions for Sweden – England
Sweden faces England in a match of the 1/4-finals of the World Cup 2018. The match is on Saturday, July 7, at the “Cosmos Arena” stadium.
Sweden’s team qualified for the 1/4-finals of the World Cup 2018 after a 1-0 victory against Switzerland. The only goal in the game was the offensive midfielder Emil Forsberg. Few people expected the Swedes to perform so successfully at this World Cup. Even when they were sent to a qualifying group with France and the Netherlands, their initial chances of ranking the world finals were rather small. However, they reached the playoffs to face Italy. Again, the Swedish national team was underestimated, but they won 1:0 against the Italians and so booked the tickets for the race in Russia. Sweden even won its group at the World Cup, where it was world champion Germany and Mexico. The Swedes beat the Mexicans 3-0 in their last match in the group stage to finish at the top and go into the easier streak of the World Cup for direct elimination.
Everyone in England already believes that the team can become a world champion. “The Three Lions” were sent to Russia without any expectation, and even fans were expecting squads of teams like Tunisia. However, England recorded 2 wins and one loss in the group stage, as defeat was from Belgium in the last round and it did not matter. Even sending England into the easier part of the circuit as a comparison Belgium will play with Brazil at the 1/4-finals, while the English have a much lighter rival. Of course, Gareth Southgate must be very careful in the upcoming match. England has been lucky with the penalty shootout against Colombia at the 1/8-finals to be a participant in this phase of the World Cup. The “Three Lions” had an advance almost to the last referee, but Colombia managed to equalize after a corner kick and send the match in extra time. In the penalty shootout, however, the English had a more accurate idea and managed to pass the 1/8-finals safely.
In 2012 the England team had 3:2 over Sweden on Euro 2012 in the last official match between the two countries. Now the English have the opportunity to win against this opponent and the World Cup. So far, the Three Lions have defeated only two countries in the biggest tournaments – Germany and Switzerland. England enters as a favorite in the game and bookmakers expect them to move on. Harry Kane already has six goals in the tournament as two of his hits have made a penalty, including the 1/8-finals against Columbia. Tottenham striker may become the third English national to be shot in the seventh consecutive match of his country after George Camsell and Steve Bloomer.
On Saturday afternoon, Sweden’s team will come out for their fifth 1/4-final of the World Cup. In three of their four previous appearances they managed to pass this phase of the tournament. The Swedes lost only from Germany in 1934 at the 1/4-finals of the World Cup, so their balance in this phase of the tournament is pretty good. Many specialists had been deposed by Sweden after their defeat by Germany in the second round of the group stage, but they picked up and scored two consecutive wins with dry nets, and now they will try to surprise the England team.
It is noteworthy that much of Sweden’s hits are made after the break – 11 of their last 14 goals in the World Cup have been scored in the second half, including their final four goals against Mexico and Switzerland. That’s why I think a very good bet for the upcoming match is Sweden to score in the second half and the second half to be more efficient because in the first 45 minutes it is very likely that the two teams will take a more defensive approach and not see much interesting moments.
